After completing technical training, Jim began his career working in various engineering pursuits. This voyage started at an electrical engineering firm working on plans for airport lighting projects, computer interface for a local winery and other various projects. After several years working at various engineering firms, electrical, mechanical and civil, he started his career in civil service taking a job with the Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District. This was the start of his 39 year career in civil service. This is where Jim developed his love of giving back to the community. He found it rewarding to be able to say each project he worked on enriched the lives of every person living in Fresno County. After three years, the opportunity to work for the City of Fresno arose. He rose through the ranks, starting as an Engineering Technician I and retiring as a Supervising Engineering Technician. During this time he maintained the water model for the City of Fresno, managed the CPUC Rule 20A program, managed the right-of-way and special districts section for the City, worked as an Inspector on capital projects and a Project Manager for capital improvement projects, to mention a few responsibilities. After 31 years it was time for new adventures. So, Jim retired from the City on a Friday and went to work the following Monday as a Senior Engineering Technician / Utility Coordinator for the County of Fresno.
